In the middle of the world Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is located at 2800 meters above sea level. The magic that goes in its streets makes of Quito an especial and unique city. In four hours you can see the beauty of the city’s renaissance, classical and baroque architecture that lie in its churches and convents built in the colonial period.  North of Quito, in Otavalo, you will find one of South America’s most famous indigenous markets.  And then….we have the gateway to the famous and spectacular Galapagos Islands.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Quito

Arrival and transfer to the Hotel

Day 2 - Quito (B)

Visit colonial Quito, exploring the bustling streets and squares of the largest historical center in the Americas. You will visit the majestic La Compania and iconic San Francisco, guardians of a stunning multi-ethnic artistic and cultural heritage. In 1978 the United Nations declared the city a World Cultural Site. You will also visit the “ Middle of the World Monument” which marks the point where the equator (latitude 0 0) is at its closest to Quito.

Day 3 & 4 - Quito-Otavalo-Quito (B,L)

Travel to Ibarra to take the “Chaski Antawa” (SB) Train (messenger train) runs on the railway built at the beginning on the 20th century connecting the northern highlands to the tropical coast. From Ibarra, the train climbs down to the warm, dry valley of Ambuqui, through sugarcane plantations, magical landscapes, and tunnels and crossing bridges that span deep canyons and gullies. The 26km ride to Salinas plunges from 2200 down to 1500 meters above sea level in only about 2 hours.

 

Enjoy a unique lunch at the community restaurant and support our social project which is our way of helping the Valley of Salinas and its surrounding area become a tourist destination and raising the standard of living of its inhabitants.

Visit Otavalo, famous Indigenous Market which is the largest in South America. (SB)

Visit the leather-making village of Cotacachí and Peguche, a village known for its traditional textile looms and fabrics. Almost every house as a loom, and therefore a large part of the merchandise sold in Otavalo is actually made here.

Day 5 - Quito-Galapagos (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Galapagos-Quito (B)

Santa Cruz (Carrión Point): During this visit you can snorkel and see a variety of fish, rays and perhaps the harmless white-tip reef sharks. From Punta Carrion the short navigation is through the beautiful Itabaca Channel with its turquoise waters. Return to the Galapagos Legend, check-out and transfer to the airport

Day 10 - Quito (B)

Transfer to the airport to connect international flight
